Kaitlin Barnhart - The Mayfly Project + Mammaflybox

Kaitlin grew up in Northern California and Northern Idaho. She has a BA in Psychology from Pacific Lutheran University, works for Integrated Interventions and writes for various magazines. Kaitlin is known in the fly fishing community as ‘Mamaflybox’, blogging about her attempts to mix parenting (her three children) with her fly fishing adventures. She feels blessed to be a part of some wonderful organizations, but most recently she has helped develop The Mayfly Project, which uses fly fishing as a catalyst for mentoring youth in foster care.

“Smart Beautiful to me means women getting out on an adventure, regardless of their skill level or what phase of life they are in, but determined to experience the excitement of life outdoors or through fly fishing. That is why I love the river-experience- it isn’t about looking a certain way or worrying about fitting into a specific role; you turn into only a part of nature, using your brain to trick fish. You become smart when you learn to put off the things of the world you think you need to be, and are able to just be, which is why so many of us are addicted to fly fishing, because of the moments of pure serenity. Beauty is much deeper than what we have on or what we look like- to me beauty is found when you learn to enjoy the simple things, like a river, or a mayfly that has landed on your fly rod, or the smile you received from your your daughter when she caught her first fish on her fly rod. Every single woman is Smart Beautiful, but fly gals have that special twinkle in their eye; they know how to enjoy the freedom of life and they can always find an fishy adventure.”
